LOL, E. Stock brokers are 'lower than being bugs,' IMO...

My travel arrangement experiences parallel yours. Most recently, I use the Internet to research itineraries, prices. Then have called the airline directly to book the ticket, rent car. I do same for hotels.

I used to book only through travel agents.

I've never booked a plane ticket through a travel agent. It always seemed quicker and easier to call the airline directly, pre Internet, and, since available, book the flight at the airline's site. (I've never used Travelocity and the like although I've browsed their sites.)

Michael asserts that travel agents provide added value to the customer. If that's the case, then the customer would be willing to pay for that service to supplement what the airline pays the agent, which, I expect, is probably inadequate. Of course, retail customers are very price conscious, but businesses now contract with agents for such services. Even my former employer, Uncle Sam, has been contracting with travel agents for at least a decade now because that is more cost effective for them and also provides some internal controls.

FYI, E, the buggy-whip salespersons are selling 75 percent of the airline tickets in this country.

You didn't answer my question about unions, E.

Would you take it personally if someone was trying to drive you out of business, E? Maybe you would just say, oh, well.

BTW, there are about 175,000 of us oxen getting gored.

You say you used to book through travel agents. That could have been your problem. You probably would have done better sticking with one of them. I have little reason to spend time digging through my bag of tricks for a hit-and-run shopper.

I suspect you get better treatment from your regular doctor than you might in some walk-in immediate care clinic.

You can also save a few bucks changing your own oil. Don't you have better things to do?
