No, America should wipe out whoever did this to them. But not because of a sense of revenge but because they are dangerous and need to be stopped. Of course killing of innocent civilians should be reduced as much as possible and potentially friendly governments shouldn't be destabilized. Quite likely what Bin-Laden wants is the US to strike back angrily seeking revenge so he can win over more recruits to his side.

From this distance I haven't heard anything about internal protest in the US. So that is interesting. Though I have seen people saying "let's move Israel to New Zealand" as well as "let's drop nuclear bombs all over the place".

We need to attack the terrorism threat on many fronts. Insights into the mental state of the terrorists may help us figure out ways to deter the recruitment of new suicide bombers.
