How about the prohibition against marijuana. Where's the morality in that, in light of alcohol (another drug) which is not prohibited.

There is no law that I have ever seen that does not involve some form of morality
I suppose it becomes a matter of definition, then any action can be seen as a moral decision. That pretty much cheapens the concept of morality to include anything from good deeds to inadvertant burps.

There is a federal law that says lines in the road for one way traffic sections are to be white, while those marking two way sections are yellow. Is that because white is more moral than yellow ? Can you imagine the moral dilemma of the bureacrat who had to decide the color, White for one way because white is the American way, or yellow, or maybe blue stripes or have the workers throw paint buckets in the air and let God decide which lane they splash down in? It's just possible the bereacrat made a convienient choice based on the paints available.

If our laws were based on Jewish tradition there would be more emphasis on "eye-for-eye" (instead of 30 days or $30). If it were based on Christain morality there would be provisions in the penal code that instist if a man steals your wallet you have to hand over your coat (and maybe watch too in this era). There is a reason that lawbooks are not written in hebrew, it's because pretty much everything America knows about law it got from England who preserved it from Rome.
