JC, Re: English is a sort of quasipseudogermanic language with a built-in Latin extention set, isn't it?

Well, if you know Latin, you know all European languages more or less. ;)

"English is a sort of quasipseudogermanic language with a built-in Latin extention set, isn't it?"

English derived from what became Plattdeutsch (current German is Hochdeutsch), with an admixture of probably any other language that didn't keep it's words nailed down. For example, look at the provenance of 'amok'...

English is pretty close to Plattdeutsch even now. They have an actual 'w' in their language, for example.
