Carl:

Hey, I'm not a pothead. Your post is informative. The forestry service did build the roads that opened up this country to cars, I think. The auto industry and oil industries successfully lobbied against better public transportation and for themselves. btw, I've planted lots of trees and no marijuana ever.

Higher environmental costs for hemp as well, you have to cultivate the land annually at a minimum, causing extensive erosion .... most land here in BC on which we grow timber is not flat enough to cultivate, so better a rotation closer to a hundred years, while leaving the root systems of the harvested timber intact to resist erosion .... plus we grow native species for the purpose, not anything artificially introduced ... plus, most of the pulp chips come as byproduct of higher value uses like lumber and veneer production .... so even if hemp was economical in some places and useful for some uses, it could never replace nsbk as a base for paper ... [nsbk = northern softwood bleached kraft] ... raw fiber millgate costs are a miniscule portion of the price of the finished bale of pulp, anyway

You do a little forestry, don't you Carl .... know much about the 'commerce' department protectionism against canadian lumber? ... i started a thread on the subject, unfortunately worded title considering recent events, contains the word 'attack' .... yet that is in fact what we know it to be - #subject-51596 .... anyway, you'd be welcome to discuss the subject there, or on the winter thread, follow my bio for that .... cheers
