This would mean that terrorism is supported by the rabbinical authorities in Israel. Sharon also used terrorism as a political tool. The King David hotel, the USS Liberty, the Lavon Affair and Deir Yassin all prove that terrorism is, and has been, an integral part of Israel's foreign and domestic policy. What do these historical facts tell us about the recent terrorism in NY? Israel has, so far, been the chief beneficiary of this latest terrorist attack. The evidence, so far, points to Moslem terrorists who have a grudge against America. Neverthless, we must ask the hard question: could Israel have had a hand in at least encouraging these barbarous acts? Using the classical Roman principle of QUE BONO (who benefits), forces us to dare ask the question whether Israeli intelligence could have penetrated the Islamic cells and helped direct and finance such an attack that so clearly fits in their political agenda? This horror against our people, our nation and our relatives (my wife's first cousin was murdered in this attack) demands that we investigate and look into every possible suspect. The fact that Israeli leaders have, in the past, both justified and used terrorism as a political weapon against America, Britain and others tells our leaders that they should at least be investigated as possible suspects. Mr. Ashcroft's Christian-Zionist beliefs is perhaps the most troubling aspect of this investigation. Knowing that Mr. Ashcroft belongs to the Assemblies of God, a Christian group that is extremely anti-Arab and thinks that Israel can do no wrong, makes me wonder whether Mr. Ashcroft would pursue his duties, rather than his theological beliefs, if he found evidence that points to Israel. Would his theological beliefs override his responsibility to his country and fellow citizens rather than his duties to his religion? In his eyes, Israel is a "sacred nation", a nation beyond reproach since they are the "apple of God's eye". I have watched Assembly of God believers justify the most outrageous Israeli behavior over the years simply because they believe that Irael is "the chosen of God". They can only see Israel as "God's chosen" and no one should oppose them unless they want to gain the disfavor of God. These are hard questions and hard thoughts, but as an American who has been personally touched by this tragedy, I demand a just and objective investigation into this horrible tragedy, an investigation that pursues all possible suspects.
