Regarding "groking" and SIASL....

Heinlein's main charactor Michael Valentine Smith was
patterned from a real person still very much alive ...a young
pilgrim from the US , that had gone to India and
Sri Lanka in 1940's on a "Sadhana" looking
for San marga.

There he met & was trained by "the Old Man of the East" ,
Siva Yoga Swami ,one of the great sages of the
20th century who abode in Colombuthrai...

That young man from the US , 55 years later
was just chosen by the "All Hindu Council of Bombay" ,
to be one of the 3 main representatives of Hinduism
to the world ...the first westerner to ever be chosen
in that capcity. One of the highest recognitions
given to a Guru , he is revered & known
throughout all India.

He also recieved the Uthant peace award last year...

One of the more "hidden" incredible stories of the
20th century...and very true.

Though born in the West , he's considered one of India's
premier sages and gurus living now . One of the reasons
Joe Cambell moved to Hawaii...

;-)

I did not know you were a sci-fi purist
Guilty. Actually, my preference is HARD science fiction. Unfortunately, that's HARD to find. Strictly speaking FTL drives are fantasy, since established physics (mostly) rules them out.

I'll take a good tale when I can't get that, though. :-)

Sometimes, I don't like reality
There are times when I absolutely despise it.
