David Re..It is without question that Clinton and Gore would have been unable to reach such a decision in the required time frame, if for no other reason because there was insufficient time to take a poll.<<<<

Funny, but also sadly, true.

The disclosure that Bush made this critical decision on the recommendation of his staff speaks volumes about the competence of both Bush and his staff. <<<<<<<<

We can all be thankful, that the heroes on the United flight 93 attacked the hijackers, and spared Bush from being Ted's target on that one. Ted would still be whinning on that one. It was a gutsy decision, one few politicians would have made.

Re:"Perhaps the most telling event during this crisis was Bush's immediate decision that, if necessary, the fourth straying airliner would be shot down."

Dubya was cowering in a bunker out West someplace when Cheney and company made that decision. Later, they informed the Acting President what their decision was.

Oh yeah, while Georgie was running scared and avoiding danger, firemen were risking their lives at the WTC to rescue people and fight the fires.
