Now with real estate, I think a service is done. If you negotiate a 4% commission you are doing well. The fact that YOU don't escort morons who have no interest in purchasing your home can be a deal saver (IMO). No lost Saturdays and Sundays. AND there is a degree of separation that is oh-so-comforting. Our RE agent earned her keep. I'll tell you that she dug into her own pocket more than once to make the deal.

Now that I think of it, I could see combining airport personal shuttle (both ends) and block ticket purchases. The business would pick you up at your door, drop you off at airport security, you board, then get off, go right to the shuttle that takes you to the hotel. Now THERE's a service. But it seems that you'd still order this through the Internet and they'd dispatch by cell phone. I've got to see some value for me. I don't see it with travel agents.

I don't think you get it. The airlines have a business model that can't be sustained. Travel agents have nothing to do with this. The internet is not going to help. They are going to have to cut capacity and eliminate fantasy fares.
