That's why I think it's interesting... China and Russia have a traditional animosity... China would love to have Siberia's resources.

But such an alliance between the US and Russia would effectively place Bejing in a position where they would be forced to spend money on arms that they can ill afford to divert from their economy.

It would certainly divert their attention northward in a way that would decrease their meddling and aggression in the S. China sea.

Again... I don't think such a treaty would last because the Europeans would see it as overshadowing THEIR belief that they are a superpower and would likely attempt to break it apart.

But Russia knows they need economic aid. And they don't want to come "hat in hand" to the US.. However, current events permit them to join with US in a manner where all sides are able to save face and justify their alliance (combatting terrorism).

Just something to throw into the pot so as to stir up some discussion.
