I just was pointing out that 'predicting' JDSU's return to profits in the current environment may require more 'proof' for investors to see that before they will be convinced that the company has turned the profit corner. Eric provided a pasted article discussing i2 which included estimates that may or may not fall under the category of prediction. Reality is we have to see if the market begins to anticipate a return to profits and what those profits will be. Depending on one's diverse mix of 'risk', there are investments that do currently have profits - as well as estimates for continued profits. Yet, EPS estimates are being slashed left and right for equities amidst the known and the unknown. Bruce, i agree. It is probably safer and wiser to wait till JDSU and others become profitable, but I2 is an example of where it means nothing. I2 and JDSU were profitable and now they are not. Rambus is profitable and they may disappear from the planet in a few years. Should we as investors wait till companies are doing 10 billion in annual sales and producing a large amount of profits with 30 billion in the bank? Sure, the risk of one of these companies going out of business is slim, but so is the return. The point of my argument was that JDSU would benefit mostly when current limitations (as I see them) are solved. It was not a question of if but when. Nortel feels we could see FTTH in the next 3 to 4 years. Sorry, i can't find the link..DSL cannot be installed if you are more than about 17000 feet from the local phone exchange. Two-way cable is not widely available in most areas. T1 & T3 are too expensive for small business, which comprise the bulk of the workforce in any country. I haven´t seen DSL at 30 megs per second, but I ´ll take your word for it. I find these issues as bottlenecks (limitations), but as I said all IMHO. I can't remember which company, but someone is offering 100 megs for like 30 bucks a month. tinkershaw, do you remember which company that was?I have heard this a number of times, but does anyone know whether the dark fiber is fitted with equipment or whether it is just the fiber. If the latter, then the picture would seem to be rather more positive for companies that made equipment. From what i've read and the comments of JDSU management, it appears to be a glut of dark fiber.
