Leap Adds Increased Personalization and On-Demand Updates to Its Slice Service Date: 9/24/01
SAN DIEGO, Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Leap Wireless International, Inc. (Nasdaq:
LWIN), an innovator of wireless communications services, today announced further enhancements to its innovative Slice service, the first channel on Leap's Telephone Entertainment Network. Marketed as Your Personal Telephone Entertainment Channel, Slice service delivers short "voice clips" of local news and events, movie reviews, sports, weather, traffic, bargains, and more directly to customers' wireless phones before their local calls connect. The increased personalization now allows Slice customers to choose from a variety of fun content categories -- from movie and music reviews to kids and family. In addition, Slice customers will be able to get traffic, weather, and local event updates on demand with just a few simple keystrokes. (Photo: newscom.com ) "Customers like Slice because it's personal, local, simple, and fun -- and it can save them money," said Doug Hutcheson, Leap's senior vice president, strategic planning and product development. "These new enhancements will make it easier than ever for Slice customers to keep up-to-date on what matters to them.
By handpicking their favorite content categories, customers can create their own personal Slice newscast on their wireless phone. And they will have traffic, weather and local event information at their fingertips." As part of its Slice enhancements, Leap also expects to offer advertisers the ability to monitor, control, and obtain reports on their Slice promotional campaigns in real-time over the Internet. In addition, Leap expects advertisers to be able to target specific audiences and demographic segments based on information that customers volunteer when they personalize their Slice service.
"With these enhancements, Slice will become a targeted, personalized advertising medium that offers the cost-effectiveness of radio with the targeting of direct mail," Hutcheson said. With a simple press of a button, customers can get more information by voice or text on select voice clips. Leap currently offers its Slice service to its Cricket customers in Phoenix, Ariz.; Albuquerque, N.M.; and Chattanooga and Nashville, Tenn.
