Mesaba Airlines cuts include layoffs, attrition

Published Sep 25 2001

Mesaba Holdings Inc. said Monday that it will cut expenses by
an amount commensurate with the 20 percent service reduction
announced last week.

In a news release, the Minneapolis-based owner of Mesaba
Aviation Inc. said initial staff reductions are beginning today,
with a 30 percent reduction in officer and director level
positions.

Mesaba, which operates as Northwest Jet Airlink and
Northwest Airlink, said last week that it expected to eliminate
jobs.

The company said it expects to reduce costs through voluntary
and involuntary furloughs, layoffs, attrition and freezing open
positions.

Mesaba, now flying an adjusted schedule, completed 98.9
percent of its flights on Monday.

Mesaba shares closed at $5.76, up 29 cents.
