Once again, I do not that believe any of the requested measures call for suspension of the Constitution. Any measure which might be enacted is still subject to judicial review. The jurisprudence on civil liberties matters is quite extensive. I believe your fear of a police state is overblown.

And lastly, you did not answer my question about identity of the "fundamentalists" you referenced in your post. I certainly hope we can all refrain from cheap political shots at Bush Administration officials and policies designed by fallible humans to deal with a very thorny set of issues....

I agree Steve. I think people can be detained for a day without charges now. If that was extended slightly esp. as a temporary measure I might not complain much but a permanent ability to detail anyone for an indefinite length of time is a dangerous power to give government officials.

"The ability to detain for an indefinite period of time"...I think the Administration is asking that this be applied only to non-US citizens, in fact, to aliens, suspected of causing terrorism or supporting it in any way.
