Initial jobless claims rose 58,000 to 450,000 in the week ended Sept. 22, above expectations for a smaller increase to 435,000. That marked the highest number of claims since July 1992. The previous week's claims were revised up to 392,000 from the initial estimate of 387,000. The Labor Department estimated that New York state filings rose by about 11,000.
