....those nation's attempts to defend themselves

Uh-huh. Does that include killing clerics and nuns? Cardinal Romero and the four nuns in El Salvador? Does that include the CIA paying Montesinos in Peru while he makes people disappear? Does that include making students, women and other non-combatants disappear in Chile for 15 years?

Have you ever actually talked to anyone who left those countries about WHY they left?

Military targets are one thing. But no matter how hard you try to spin it, killing a few dedicated fanatics in europe won't cleanse us of past errors.

"What you and the left liked to call a "death squad" was a necessary part of fighting the Soviet terrorists in those Central American countries." Give me a break, in Nicaragua, Somoza was an American backed oppressive ruler, he was overthrown by leftists who created a legitimate democracy and now there is relative peace there. In Panama the U.S. propped up Noriega and his death squads for years, all the while he was exporting cocaine to the U.S. and lining his pocket. That's not a way to fight communism. Allende, democratically elected, was overthrown (with U.S. help)and Pinochet and his death squads ruled with impunity for many years, all with U.S. support. If you knew what CIA trained death squads did in El Salvador to create a climate of terror, oh I forgot, it doesn't bother you what they did because it was for a good cause. That's moral equivocation again, we have a lot of that on this thread.
