I agree with the pilots union. Let them get trained and carry weapons. This makes the pilots "Air Marshalls" What's wrong with that?

I don't expect anyone with a fake badge and uniform will find his way into the cockpit area ever again. You should go back and read the article again. The point is that entrance to the cabin may not have been by extortion thread but by someone already there in the cabin who could casually unlock the door and as associates came into the cabin they could then directly overpower the flight crew. If no guests were allowed and the Pilot were armed then a far more complex plan would be required to take control of a plane.

The plan used was based upon friendly deceit and quickly overpowering the flight crew. The fact that no attempt to have guns at all shows the effectiveness of past existing plans. Any attempt now to have multiple planes and also get a few guns onboard would be very very risky.
