Now I am lost...Arabs started 1948 the war to reclaim land that was taken before...but because they failed they did not start it?

Now you begin to understand, goldsnow. For the same reason, the Israelis won in 1948, therefore they could not have been outnumbered or outgunned.

Indeed you are lost. Israel attacked the Palestinians before 1948, took land, and then the Arab nations counter-attacked to reclaim it. They failed. What is so confusing about that?
