this is astounding...i guess they won't extend similar courtesies to 'visiting Mid East pilots' in the future.

After reading that material I reflected that I have better security in my house than existed in the hijacked airplanes. I do not invite strangers to come in and sit down, usually; my doors lock with keys that no one has copies of outside the family; and I have a shotgun upstairs with a box of shells nearby--not loaded, because we do live in a well-policed community.

Do my precautions seem paranoid? Seems like ordinary prudence to me. I do not belong to the NRA, do not carry a concealed weapon, and favor the registering of weapons--though if it seemed to me that registration was preliminary to taking away my guns, I would probably disobey the law. In fact, I think I probably already do, since I have quite an arsenal of weapons inherited from three generations of arms-bearing Americans and I suspect I may be supposed to get a permit for some of these.

The more I hear, the more convinced I am that the grounding of all aircraft was a brilliant and totally unexpected move by the FAA. The day was a disaster, but all signs point to what would have been a much worse day.
