I really don't get it....why are the PC makers encouraging a set up whereby there is only one chip supplier...INTC? You would think the duopoly is to their advantage.

They each hoped the other guys would do it (support both Intel and AMD). However, when it comes to sink or swim, you cut whatever you have to to survive. Can you blame Gateway for simplifying and saving? Guess it's on HP/CPQ now to keep two chip sources going.


Tony, margins must really suck if you can't afford to maintain a healthy competition between your suppliers. Maybe the merger between HP and CPQ, assuming it goes thru, will help.
