I was disheartened today. When I went to lunch at the cafeteria I wanted the stuffed peppers, but they came with an eggplant and tomato side dish that didn't look appealing to me. The server let me substitute corn bread but I was thinking that a stewed okra with brown sugar would have been a better complement to spiced rice and meat.

On the way out I saw a large group of agitated people leaving the side building. I knew there was some nasty chemicals in the building and although infrequent, it is possible there was a spill. It even struck me that there might be an intentional spill by some terrorist!

No, as it turns out it was a few thousand more people being told that their services will be no longer needed. These are people who already live in the industrial part of town. Who relish the country western dance bars if they are single and tight little two bedroom apartments if they are married and expecting. These are people who bought a pickup when Clinton was President but haven't finished paying it off. They were all walking out as if they wished they had been exposed to a chemical spill of the nastiest and quickest variety.
