One can neither truly dislike, disagree, or remedy what one does not understand. Understanding is not the same as sympathy. I for one do not need to hate my enemy or be convinced that he is pure evil in order to destroy him. This may take the "fun" out of my actions, but it has the advantage of increasing the odds that I'll complete the job without going overboard.
