I have to worry about my wife opening e-mail attachments because the ones that exploit Outlook (& Outlook Express) mail them to everybody in their address book. Hence, the attachment comes from somebody you know. However, you can get products that will change attachments that are visual basic scripts or executable files (i.e. .vbs & .exe files, among other things). The one I use is ZoneAlarm Pro (a very good firewall), and it will also do things like prevent unknown programs from suddenly trying to get on the Internet (some shareware will install a spy application; the latest worm also transferred itself via shared directories & public web directories, and ZoneAlarm stopped it from "getting out" of my computer).

At least twice, though, my wife could not run an Outlook worm and thus we weren't among those spreading it around.
