A lot has been piled on EZB for instance for doing "nothing" - aka standing "frozen" in the middle of 2001 headlights. However they did keep the lid on inflation and on deficit spending ideas of member states.

Japan has been slowly succumbing to Alzheimer since quite some time (since the real estate bubble at the very least). You cant say that for Europe.
