An unusual joint intelligence team, comprising professionals from Pakistan, Russia, USA and Tajikistan intelligence agencies, is being formed to trace Osama bin Laden, now said to be missing from Afghanistan, it is reliably learnt. Government sources said the joint intelligence team, the first of its kind in Pakistan's intelligence agencies history, will also finalize a strategy in the light of which the US government will decide to attack Afghanistan. The sources said the joint team will particularly indicate those areas where Osama could possibly be hiding inside Afghanistan.

The US intelligence brains will be guiding the members of this intelligence network which will comprise dozens of officers from the intelligence agencies of the three countries which share their borders with Afghanistan.

Sources said the US and its allies were not ready to accept Taliban's claim that Osama had suddenly disappeared from the scene without informing them. The US was of the firm belief that Osama was still hiding in Afghanistan and could be found if the intelligence network of neighbouring countries like Pakistan, Tajikistan and Russia was utilized under the direct supervision of US intelligence agency bosses.

The sources said the help of Northern Alliance was also being sought to locate Osama as Americans were of the view that being natives they could be more helpful. The US delegation was also expected to discuss the issue of formation of this network with the Russian intelligence agency-the KGB as well in the few days. Preliminary talks on this subject with the Tajikistan authorities have already been held.
