Wonderful article. I was talking with a friend from the Bay Area (who told me three families she knew had already packed up and moved hours north to more remote places) and told her how glad I was that I had made my trip right before this partly because it had been such a reminder of the kindness of people and strangers. I know I went on to you about when I visited and I hadn't even seen the best of it yet. But each leg of the trip, each stop, each encounter was amazing. The simple, and larger, kindnesses shown to me. I was so happy to be in such a world. I met two jerks. They were big jerks, but drarfed by the numbers. So, yah, the numbers he talks about are so true. I just felt sad for those two that they were so unkind and thoughtless. But there was little time to dwell on that when wandering alone out in the world experiencing the beauty of kindness that most give. It reminded me of one of the reasons I like to travel. People are fun to meet.

Thank you so much for posting that.
I hope we can all think about giving gifts- to our neighbors, to fellow Americans who might be a little worried right now- like Arab Americans. We read in the paper that there is a middle Eastern place that has had almost no business since this attack- so I'm going there for lunch.

Let's all do something. Something more than just put out a flag.
