Personally, I shoot for a higher goal. Tell that to the 6,000+ victims of this act of war and terrorism, and the families they left behind.... People who came from over 80 different nations and weren't protected by your "higher goals"... There's a time for flapping your jaws about how much better we could be a society, or the mistakes other politicians have made in the past, and there's a time for protecting what you already HAVE ACHIEVED.. And that's what we're facing here. The US and the entire system has been attacked by these muslim "fascists". They don't believe in tolerance. They don't believe in human rights for non-muslims (or even muslims). They would just as soon kill you, as look at you.. And if you permit such fanatical ideologies to find shelter in our global society, and to compete with western values of democracy and individual rights, then you'll find your ability to voice your dissident opinions constrained by both the radicals, and the reactionaries who will rise to the top as a result of your willingness to dilute our sense of outrage and resolve. I also, would love to shoot for a "higher goal". But I'm not moronic enough to believe that I can achieve it when I'm forced to deal with my enemy on his level, using force to fight force. Force and fear is all these folks understand. And while we're all for trying to limit the amount of collateral damage and innocent suffering, I'm not going to second guess this administration should some innocents suffer or die as a result of its seeking to deal with the greater evil. Were I to take such an approach, we'd never have defeated Nazi Germany or Imperial Japan... You can "stand on the sidelines" all you want Thomas while the rest of the world deals with this "matter". Just don't get in our way, while we take the steps necessarily to preserve your right to be a professional dissident. Lord knows you lack the moral spine to participate in fighting these criminals.
