Nokia Introduces 6310 Wallet Application

Nordic WirelessWatch
September 26, 2001

Nokia this week announced the introduction of a wallet application with the Nokia 6310 in conjunction with the Mobile Commerce World Europe 2001 Conference in London. The company said the 6310 will be the first Nokia mobile phone to incorporate a wallet application feature that facilitates online payments.
Nokia said the wallet application enables users to conduct online transactions via the WAP browser. Users can store protected personal information, like credit and loyalty program card details as well as shipping and billing details, inside the terminal. The data inside the terminal is secured with a special wallet code to authenticate the user to the application.

It said that by enabling Internet-type payments using the ECML (Electronic Commerce Modeling Language) standard, the wallet offers service providers easy adaptation of their current e-business to the mobile world, and that the handset will be available during the fourth quarter, 2001. <<
