"Public prayer, Gaither said, "is totally inappropriate. It's divisive."

I agree with him. But, I think that small principles must yield to larger principles within the context of human safety. If small concessions to "principle" will create unity which preserves a nation--it may, perhaps, be tolerated within a pragmatic (and temporary) context...

...link here.

I am so glad that so much -- more -- is being covered in the U.S. mainstream media these days ... without 'shame' -- rather, fear -- of bucking the 'Establishment,' etc.

'In a family newspaper.'

Geez, I hope it serves to educate the ignorant in this country. Never mind who I think those people are. Is irrevelant.

A quote I stumbled on elsewhere:

(On going to war over religion) -- "You're basically killing each other to see who's got the better imaginary friend." David Ben Gurion stumps.org

The Ben Gurion attribution is dubious, though it was #3 on the google list, google.com . Arafat is a more common attribution, but the most common and probably most likely is one Rich Jeni.

I used to have some SI correspondence with a guy who, it turns out, was a fairly close relative of someone who (years ago) was often mentioned in the same breath as Arafat. Didn't find that out till later, he was fairly discreet about politics, as you might imagine. He was also a Christian, as was his relative.
