So, are you suggesting buy.. if price drops, then get stopped out versus buying by averaging down?

That's an interesting problem.. and would depend on how much lower a stock drops below your stopped out price before buying again to be stopped out again...

Compared to amount of capital invested or shares invested total average cost over time.

Compared to how long it takes for a stock to rise to what threshold.

I'm assuming the stocks will come back 50% eventually but lets say 33% of highs.. though many won't come close.

'29 eh? That took quite a while.. don't think either method worked particularly well unless you bought heavy into big caps near the bottom and held on for 20 years... or kept money in debt instruments.

Hi Harry,

I am not using any stops nor using technical tools to get out of the position. However, I have written covered calls (partial position) after the ramp up on Monday. Looking back, it would have been better if I had sold them and pocketed some nice gains.

Later,

Suresh

Trader ALAN said on another thread that Money management is the holy grail of trading. while trading this week i felt so sure about a strong bounce that i didn't put stops in and the only thing saving me from substantial losses now are the small position sizes. Price action in stocks like BRCD,VRTS etc just unbelievably poor. Will close out positions here...and wait for better d ays.

Hi Harry:

Went to NYC yesterday and couldn't respond to your inquiry on stops (the day before SI was having too many problems). Anyway I positioned b/4 the 11th without stops. I entered stops on Monday's run and stocks like emlx, corv, qlgc triggered the next day. Entered back into emlx, qlgc and zoox on GTC orders which triggered yesterday / today. Will stay out of corv for a while. It can eaisly double from here but the telecom space has just too much of a headwind.
