As long as everyone is weighing in on this issue...

I believe that the Cold War will be replaced with, for lack of a better name, the Security War. 'Have' countries will need to devote the previously allocated 'Cold War' resources to internal security, and security of their world interests. Military forces and technology will change from conventional/nuclear to special forces/clandestine/high tech.

The war on terrorism may take as long as the Cold War. After we 'stabilize' the current situation (which will involve some degree of taking out current terrorist assets), the key is to discover the correct balance of deterence that saw us through that war.

We're back to post WWII, and Russia just exploded their first nuclear device.
