Comparing Europe to the Western Hemisphere.
The US should not be too much surprised as how it has got so many people to see is it as more a negative force in the world rather than positive.

Europe had Portugal, Spain and Greece under dictatorships and those countries -plus Ireland- were poor and backward on the seventies. The countries got rid of their dictatorships and were brought into the EU fold. In a matter of less than two decades they joined the ranks of developed countries.

Now lets compare that with the Western Hemisphere:
Today Mexico can have access to the US market for maquilladora products and the US and Canada can sell in Mexico.

Border patrols try to catch desperate Mexicans trying to cross the Rio Grande and die in the desert or inside trucks.

The FBI invade a house to get a six-year old back to Cuba.
Steel producers in the US claim for barriers against cheaper steel from developing countries, orange juice producers from Florida and fruit growers in California all claim for protection.

What goes under the name of "aid" is military help for two single countries: Israel and Egypt.

The track record of the US expanding economic development, and free market policies is miserable when compared to Europe.

It would be wiser for Americans to start thinking about the problem at home: A bellicose governing elite supported by a fat cat bureaucracy. When superpowers become like this they are on the way down.

It is this fat bureaucracy, whose shaddy deals go sour that causes trouble as we are seeing right now.
