From a Constitutional standpoint, many of the civil liberties we and visitors are guaranteed do not exist at the border when one is entering the US.

I can live with that. Detain them is fine, but give them some due process and charge them or send them back where they came from.

Blair announced the same sort of approach as Ashcroft did; hold them indefinitely. The press made a characterization of draconian.

G.W. tried a phrase out earlier ... it was something like A war of freedom vs. fear. It didn't catch on. But scanning the news and looking at the sudden private demand for anthrax vacination; I have a friend considering emigrating out of the US [under the illusion that terrorism is a US phenomena]; an ABC poll that captured that 2/3 of the people in the US are willing to give up some of their freedoms for a feeling of safety from terrorism [as if that were possible], etc..it may exactly be a war of freedom vs. fear. But we have met the enemy in that war and it's us.
