<<They were selling nothing but Eagles, but trying to make them seem like collectibles by stating that "only" 72,000 had been minted, or something like that. They were claiming to have "cut prices." "Only $399 for this valuable gold coin with one full ounce of gold." I guess a 33% premium on a gold coin is probably better than a 100% premium on a potato peeler.>>

Nothing to help us yet. They've had that kind of coin sale on one of the shows for a long time. The high premium is the disappointing part -- anybody buying one of them is buying it as "an investment" because there's no way they'll be able to sell it at a profit unless we see gold at $400.

When I start to see ads for gold futures on "Seinfeld" re-runs right after supper, then I'll start getting excited.

Those of us who have collected coins or have been a coin dealer over the years just love the TV shopping channels promoting "rare collectible coins". I sometime laugh out loud at the bizarre claims made to get you to call right now !!

When their customers bring their rare $399 American Eagle to a coin dealer, who offers spot for a common bullion piece, it is always the coin dealer who is trying to rip them off. I guess it is hard to admit paying $399 for something that could easily be found for closer to $300
