Lehman Brother's Dan Niles cut his
earnings-per-share estimates on Dow stock IBM
(IBM: news, chart, profile) for the third-quarter to 88
cents from 95 cents and 2001 EPS to $4.40 from
$4.50 and 2002 to $4.95 from $5.00. Niles said the
tragedy of the terrorist attacks on the U.S.
accelerated already worsening trends and said he
remains negative on the computer hardware space in
general until the macro situation stabilizes. On
Wednesday, Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch
moved to lower earnings estimates on IBM, sending the stock down 3.3 percent.
