Good article. The attempt of certain religious representatives to keep patriarchal, feudalistic scriptures alive and relevent in the modern world of human rights and global trade--this attempt is doomed to eventual failure. Anything that militates against the self interest of half the world, needs more than a little tweaking. Keeping women as slaves is the only way for fundamentalist Islam to survive. This is why such regimes are isolationist and require detachment from a free media. Information that slaves are actualy people is not information that they want the slaves to continuously hear. Once the chimera of the inerrancy of scripture is exposed, the back of fundamentalism is broken

I heard an idea from someone as to what our "revenge" could be ~ Kidnap all the women from Afganistan and bring them here and educate them.
