I honestly thought America lost its innocence with the assassination of JFK... that was a turning day in our history and in our psyche... soon afterward, we had the Vietnam conflict ripping this country apart at the seams, universities were being taken over by extremist groups and by the students themselves whose education was being paid for by their parents, the very people against whom they protested, then Nixon, Watergate, and a mistrust of government, and so on..... I don't think we really ever recovered or regained our innocence from those times.....
