False in most places outside Alaska: I think you are confusing the fuel buildup from fire suppression with old growth forests. I said "old growth as you know it." Old growth in earlier times was heavily modified by fire both natural and man-caused. Native Americans knew they needed fire and used it regularly.

True:
There may be fuel buildup in old growth and there may be fuel buildup in new growth.

False: Old growth forest is distinguished by the fact that it is old. Most ecologists qualify old-growth with structural attributes such as tree size, density, species mix, understory, and the amount and kind of disturbance.

False:
A rapidly grown tree does not have the strength to attain the size.
Take a look at a few tree stumps, or talk to a professional. Many old-growth trees started out growing very fast.

Makes no sense:
A forest has to grow thick first and dense later.
