As you are a non techie I'll say that you are ignorant of many systems that have never been successfully attacked. This last hideous act was the ultimate in low tech. It used deception and courtesy to bluff a control situation. I don't think the expense vs the added reliability is worth remote control. I would just give the pilots guns with training and or an Air Marshall. The overwhelming majority of American personal use of high technology is a computer running an operating system from Microsoft that I as an engineer consider a virus petri dish. As one gets into real commercial and military quality technology the blue screen of death does not exist in a persons life time. tom watson tosiwmee

Thanks for the response. I understand your concerns, and like you I am a non-techie. I do have faith in our technical capabilities to devise a system that cannot be taken over by soon to be underfunded and thoroughly chased around terrorists. And I don't mind someone speaking out against ideas that we may have, but I will wait until I hear more about it before I make up my mind. One of the bothersome things to me about the anti-war protester types is that they go out and do the protesting before they could possibly know all the facts (or enough facts). Not saying that you are in the anti-war on terrorism camp, but your 1st inclinations appear to be of the negative variety. That seemed to be the case here, and I had some caustic remarks for you on Sept. 11 when you tossed blame around just hours after the event. Food for thought.
