I was watching the O'Reilly Factor on the tube last night. He had Manny Asensio on trying to push the idea that shorting stocks after the attack was anti-american.

O'Reilly was upset that people might make a profit from shorting stocks after the attack.

I wonder how many people are feeling guilty for making a profit from being long LLL or CDCY. How many people are going long stocks that can benefit from what has happened with the recent stocks. Why aren't people saying that it is unpatriotic to profit by going long stocks in the wake of the attack?

Asensio rightly pointed out that the people who were immoral in this picture were the pros who were saying "Don't sell, it's unpatriotic" while dumping their shares on the following Monday.

At least shorters provide some sort of floor on the stock as they cover.

I know that I said it before, but shorting stocks is not unpatriotic. Not being able to pay your bills because we bought into hype saying that it was unpatriotic to sell our stocks while the big boys dumped, now that is unpatriotic.

maybe this should be on the rant thread, but I cut it a lot shorter than I originally intended.
