I think the Fed may be hitting the wall here - do they lower short rates below the rate of inflation (which may be headed up in any event because of the US currency's slide and their habit of being net importers) and lock themselves into a futile battle trying to stimulate a corpse (sort of like Japan)?

Aggregate debt levels are too high and I suspect it will take quite a while to work them off or write them down. I don't think we'll have a Japan scenario, but this is quickly becoming a much longer bear market, by historical standards. The optimist in me says economic recovery in the 2003-2005 time frame; you don't want to hear from the pessimist...

Thanks for the chart commentaries. I think with your approach you're unlikely to be faked out by much of anything (short of a complete surprise like an exogenous shock such as 9/11 - i hope we never see anything like that again, ever)
