Sun, this most recent cell purchase for my daughter is $39.00 a month 350 minutes anytime and 2150 nights and weekend, with free long distance on sprints.

Last June/July my wife vacationed in Florida and call me in California at no added cost.

Stan

OT - Think of it as an investment in our well-being. Also, the dirt cheap long distance rate might pay for itself, depending on how much you call. My wife is an only child, and her mother lives only 25 miles from us. They talk daily by cell phone because it's cheaper than land lines.

As for DSL, buyer beware. We had it for 8 months, the first 2 were great, then the service started to gradually erode to the point where we were dialing in on the backup number more than using DSL. Check with friends and neighbors in your immediate vicinity before switching over. Digital bandwidth will replace analog dialup completely, I'm sure, but we're in a technology transition stage.
