In order to prevent a far more severe recession, possibly leading to a depression, something had to break the dangerous "bi-partisan" agreement to retire $160 billion by calling it a "Social Security Surplus". That job has been done now, and we are saved economically, though everyone would have preferred plain common sense rather than the disaster that occurred. At least it's done-for this year.

The probability is now stronger than ever for an additional tax rebate on the heels of the first one. Cutting marginal rates would be better, but there will be the facade of compromise.

The socialists have been dealt a huge blow. They can barely mumble their case now, and no one's interested...
