Not sure i agree with you here, len ... the taliban in current control of portions of Afghanistan don't exactly have the legitimacy of the danish or argentino governments ... they are largely a creation of pakistani foreign policy, and overwhelmingly pashtun in ethnic origin .... do they represent afghanis? - well some afghanis certainly, but as to whether they should be regarded as anything more than a temporary de facto power on the ground, i dunno ... these are very weak states, even Pakistan, rulers du jour there just took over with a military coup, how long are they going to last .... such a minefield this line of thinking, of course, and it has been abused by every empire that ever was, up to and including the US You make many fine points, and i think people making these petulant little blindered comments at you are confusing a wide-angle viewpoint with pacificism .... eh? Don't hang him, imho - for three reasons, the third being the most important 1. no state should have the right to take life from the unarmed 2. you'll lose opportunity to extract information from him 3. you'll make him a martyr, and hand him a victory in so doing
