Carolyn, it does appear that this discussion will last as long as the conflict being discussed. As long as people need to identify themselves as being Jews as opposed to being Muslims as opposed to being Christians as opposed to being Hindus as opposed to being atheists, these conflicts will go on, both on the individual as well as collective level. The only variable is the level of intensity which ranges from outright violence to self- righteous tolerance and smugness. Endlessly rehashing historical events in an attempt to prove who pissed in who's Post Toasties first is kind of pointless as this conflict began long before either Israel or Palestine existed. Its the same old game, just being played in a new ballpark.
