I have an HP 700 mhz pentium iii pc with SCSI disk drive with 256 MB RAM.

I have noticed that the disk drive is ALWAYS being actively accessed even if I dont do any read / writes. Sometimes the disk accesss takes over the full processor time and no other action can be performed.

Is there something that I can do in the settings to prevent this?
