No, I think it is more than that. Israel is a thorn, an excuse. The real reason is economic IMO, as it so often is. There is tremendous wealth in the area, all in the hands of a tiny number; no democratic governments; a cultural history of repression and violence. It is so easy to say it is all Israel's fault; Israel's fault along with her best friend, the US. Blame them, not us, say their rulers.

Nonsense again. bin Laden has been quite explicit about his reasons for attacking the United States - US troops in Saudi Arabia, home of the Holy Places of Islam. And we got our foot in the door there because of Saddam, not Israel.
