...Muslim States are economic failures

I think this is quite true, though they'll be able to inflict quite a bit of damage on their way down to zero, especially with the religious-extremist-sect aspect, which the communists never "enjoyed" during their moments of glory. And even without this, communism managed 100 million deaths during the 20'th century.

Here's a politically incorrect outburst for you! (Berlusconi opens his mouth...)

physcomarper: The analogy is fair except for one difference. Air travel and the Internet have in many ways globalised problems which could have previously been confined to a local area. Because of this, it is important that we understand the global implications of any local upheaval since it will affect our well being in the long run.

This problem is made more complex because the political, religious sects and economic set ups in the Muslim Countries are extremely diverse. In the past, we have exploited this diversity to our short term advantage whilst we have ignored the long term implications.

The problem facing us now is whether we continue on the same path as before or we reshape our policies towards a long term goal. If it is the later, it would be most interesting to learn what that goal is.

Reiteration of facts and realities , is unlikely to result in any progress in finding a solution.
