Statements such as the above can be quite misleading albeit accurate! Yes, had you made an investment in 1966 and remained idle from that point forward, it would have taken you 27 years to recoup your initial investment. However, that timeline and the return earned changes quite dramatically if the investor had reinvested dividends and continued to invest in an ongoing and systematic fashion!
