I'm willing to put up with extra security measures. The cartoon shows the Statue of Liberty observing her new ball and chain. That reminds me of my marten trapping days in the high country of Montana. The snow was deep so I had to wear snowshoes. My friend and I called the snowshoes a ball and chain because they were difficult to travel in. Without them, however, over-snow travel was simply impossible. So I guess I look at some security measures like I did my snowshoes--a necessary evil.

I would rather see a little judicious profiling than having some security guard finger my toothbrush a half-dozen times as happened not long ago when I passed through Seattle. Some people just don't belong here, and no terrorist training manual can make them fit for long -- if we are vigilant. I fail to see why we should extend civil liberties fought and paid for by the blood of patriots to people who don't extend any kind of liberty even to their own women. I don't see why we should just take a look at the visa that says somebody can stay six months and not do anything about it when the six months is up.
